SUNSET PARK —  A Brooklyn man fatally stabbed his girlfriend Saturday morning before slashing his throat in an apparent suicide attempt, according to police and news reports.

Police responding to 911 calls by passersby found Tara Beardsall, 31, about 10:30 a.m. in front of a home on 51st Street near the Gowanus Expressway, according to police and reports.

Beardsall, who lived in TriBeCa, had sustained a severe stab wound to her neck, police said. She was rushed to Lutheran Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead on arrival, cops said.

When police entered the building, they found a man bleeding from an apparently self-inflicted stab wound in his neck, cops said. The man, who was identified by the Daily News as the victim's boyfriend, was in critical condition at Lutheran on Saturday night, police said.

Police sources attributed the suspect's injury to a failed suicide attempt, according to the News.

Neighbors told the paper that Beardsall had previously taken out an order of protection against the man after he was arrested for assaulting her, but that the couple had reconciled.
