All Vegetarian, Organic 'Fast Food' Eatery Opens in Financial District

FINANCIAL DISTRICT — For a fast and tasty chicken, cheddar and bacon sandwich — without any real meat or cheese — a new FiDi all-vegan, organic restaurant has you covered.

Newly opened eatery Terri, at 100 Maiden Lane, offers up vegetarian versions of some familiar favorites, like a “meatball” sub — made with soy and wheat protein balls — along with a variety of healthy salads, smoothies, juices and even desserts.

“We wanted to bring a healthy, quick, veggie option to this neighborhood,” said Terri's general manager and co-owner Tomer Versano, who also lives in the Financial District. “It’s something we’re passionate about.”

The restaurant, which opened on March 24, is the second outpost for Terri.

Founders Craig Cochran and Michael Pease, once managers of upscale organic, vegan eatery Candle 79, launched the first Terri — named after both their moms, who happen to share the same name — in Chelsea in 2010.

‘This is an affordable, fast way to eat healthy, organic foods,” said Versano, 26. “It also tastes great.”

Sandwiches and wraps, like their Thai “Chicken” and Chickpea “Tuna” Melt options, cost about $8, while their salads, smoothies and juices are in the $6 range.

Plus, the shop has a number of gluten-free selections, including breads and sweets such as chocolate buttercream cupcakes.

While the eatery bill’s itself as “vegetarian,”  it’s actually all-vegan, which means no dairy or animal products of any kind.

“Some people are intimidated by the ‘vegan’ label, it’s sounds more restrictive and maybe not as appetizing," said Versano.

"But we're trying to change that perception — just come in and try us out."
