BUSHWICK — An illegal gambling den disguised as a realty office hosted "joker poker" machines and bets for months in a Bushwick basement, court papers showed.
Cops found seven slot machines, three "joker poker" machines, gambling slips and nearly $2,000 in cash in the lower level of 879 Broadway when they raided the building last fall, according to a case filed in Brooklyn Supreme Court.
The business, operated by Realty Club of NY LLC, took illegal bets on three different dates last year, an investigators claimed.
A confidential informant allegedly placed bets on a "contest of chance in exchange for U.S. currency" and received "gambling slips" twice in August and once in September, which led cops to search the Broadway basement Sept. 13.
"The execution of the warrant yielded concrete evidence substantiating the illegal activity taking place within the premises," the lawsuit, filed by the city against the realty building on Jan. 10, said.
The legal agency representing the realty club declined to comment on the case.
The storefront, now closed and with a sign for a security appliance business overhead, shares an address with a tarot reader, an antique store and religious shops on Broadway by the Myrtle Broadway subway stop.
