WILLIAMSBURG — NYPD officials denied that a convicted killer accused of causing the deaths of a couple and their unborn baby was in police custody Tuesday morning after a coworker reported seeing police pick him up when he showed up for a warehouse job.
Three days after slamming into a livery cab and allegedly killing the couple and their unborn child, Julio Acevedo gave an exclusive interview to the Daily News, during which he said he was fleeing bullets when his car hit the cab carrying Nachman and Raizel Glauber, both 21, and their unborn child. The crash happened at Kent Avenue near Wilson Street at 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
Earlier, a worker at a warehouse at 12 Evergreen Ave. told DNAinfo.com New York that Acevedo worked there and was picked up about 11:30 a.m.
"He was just arrested," a staffer at the warehouse said. "Detectives just left."
An NYPD spokesman denied Tuesday afternoon that they had anyone in custody.
Acevedo has a long rap sheet including a 1987 manslaughter conviction for killing a Brooklyn man and another arrest just two weeks ago for driving while intoxicated.
The couple that was killed early Sunday morning were rushing to the hospital because the mother believed she was experiencing complications with her pregnancy.
After Acevedo's car slammed into their cab, they were taken to area hospitals where they were pronounced dead.
Acevedo fled the scene shortly after the accident.
