NEW YORK CITY — Parents who want their kids to attend kindergarten at the city's public schools this fall must submit an application by the end of the day Friday.

In most of the city, families can fill out an application and bring it to their local zoned school, along with proof of the child's age and two documents proving his or her home address.

To see which zone your home falls in, visit the Department of Education website.

Three school districts do not have zoned elementary schools: District 1 on the Lower East Side, District 7 in the South Bronx and District 23 in Brownsville.

In those "choice" districts, parents can apply to any of the neighborhood schools, regardless of where they live, and they can rank their choices on a single application. Applications can be submitted to the district’s centralized office, or, as part of a DOE pilot program, via the department’s website or by phone.

The choice districts’ enrollment offices are at the following locations:

► District 1: 333 Seventh Ave. in Manhattan

► District 7: 1 Fordham Plaza, Seventh Floor, in The Bronx

► District 23: 1665 St. Mark’s Ave. in Brooklyn

Each office is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday. Online applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Friday.
