CONEY ISLAND — A would-be thief on the subway slashed his victim's hand and fled empty handed, cops said.
The man brandished a knife and demanded a 27-year-old man's cellphone on Monday Feb. 15 about 11:50 a.m., according to the NYPD.
In the ensuing sttruggle after the straphanger refused, the knifeman slashed his victim's left hand and fled the train with nothing at the Coney Island - Stillwell Ave. subway station, police said.
The victim was taken to Lutheran Medical Center and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, cops said.
Police described the suspect as appproximately 5-feet-8, weighing about 145 pounds and in his late teens. He was last spotted wearing a black bubble coat with yellow trim.
