MIDTOWN — Winter is coming to the Hilton New York in Midtown.
The Minus5 Ice Bar will be made almost entirely of ice — from the bar to the tables and drink glasses. It's slated to open a 2,500-foot location at the Hilton next month, the bar's third location and its first outside Las Vegas.
"After more than four years in Las Vegas operating as America's first and only true ice bars, we are thrilled to be coming to New York City," Minus5 founder and vice president of development Craig Ling said in a statement.
"Minus5 is more than a bar, it's a true entertainment destination location."
Temperatures are kept at minus 5 degrees Celsius, or 23 degrees Fahrenheit, and guests are outfitted in faux-fur hats, boots and jackets. Patrons drink from ice glasses shipped from New Zealand, and the bar features intricate ice sculptures and translucent ice walls.
Minus5 will be the second so-called "ice bar" to open in New York City — the Mehanata Bulgarian Bar on Ludlow Street features an "Ice Cage" where guests don Soviet Union military uniforms and sling ice-cold shots of vodka — but it will be the first to be almost entirely created in ice.
