UPPER EAST SIDE — State Assembly Member Micah Kellner has snagged two more political endorsements in his bid to replace outgoing City Councilwoman Jessica Lappin.
Shortly after getting the backing of Lappin, who is running for Manhattan borough president, and U.S. Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, Kellner landed endorsements from State Sen. Jose Serrano and Assembly Member Dan Quart.
Serrano and Quart praised Kellner's attention to average New Yorkers' legal rights and needs.
"Micah has been a crusader for reform in Albany, introducing legislation to crack down on government corruption and waste, ensure fair elections and make government more transparent," Serrano said in a statement. "I know Micah will bring the same spirit of reform and independence to the City Council."
Quart added: “Whenever Micah sees a problem — like tenants being harassed by their landlords — he rolls up his sleeves to help solve it."
"I worked closely together to open a free legal clinic, which has helped hundreds of tenants in this community, many of them senior citizens, remain in their homes. That’s the type of active, involved state legislator Micah has been, and that’s the type of City Councilmember he’ll be," Quart added.
Lappin and Maloney announced their endorsement of Kellner on Feb. 11, 2013. The United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 1500 has also backed him.
Among Kellner's opponents is Benjamin Kallos, who has cast himself as a progressive and government reformer, and Ed Hartzog, a Community Board 8 member.
