Astoria Pork Fest Back For Seconds After Blizzard

By Jeanmarie Evelly | February 15, 2013 10:50am

ASTORIA — Pork Fest is back for seconds.

Astoria's Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden is extending its annual Pork Fest for a second weekend, offering another chance for visitors who missed it last week thanks to Winter Storm Nemo.

The Beer Garden's Czech and Slovak food festival forged ahead last weekend in spite of a blizzard that blanketed the city in snow last Friday. But Pork Fest organizers decided to run it again this week for the out-of-towners who might have missed out because of the bad weather.

""Many people come from far away just for this," manager Larry Spacek said last week.

Slovak folk band Pajtasi, whose performance was canceled last week because of the snow, will play live on Saturday starting at 6 p.m.

A special menu of pork-themed dishes will be offered Friday, Saturday and Sunday, including items like pork and barley soup, breaded and friend pork cutlets, white and blood sausages, roast pork and sauerkraut.

Food will also be available for take-home purchases, including homemade sausages.
