PARK SLOPE — An alleged thief carted away more than $1,000 in groceries from a Gowanus grocery store, police said.

An employee at the Pathmark on Third Avenue and 12th Street spotted the alleged crook leaving the store with a shopping cart stocked with "assorted groceries" worth $1,036.95 on Feb. 7, according to a police report. Cops arrested a 24-year-old woman in connection with the crime.

The alleged thief's haul included DVDs and "non-grocery items," according to a criminal complaint. The woman was arraigned on Feb. 8 and pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct. She was sentenced to community service, a spokesman for the Brooklyn District Attorney's office said.

Other notable crimes in this week's blotter at the 78th Precinct included the following, with details provided from police reports:

• A bathroom break came at a heavy price for one Atlantic Center mall employee. A 58-year-old clerk at Sterling Gallery told cops he slipped out for a trip to the men's room on Feb. 3 and returned to find more than $900 in jewelry stolen from the shop. The thief's haul included a belly button stud loop valued at $120 and gold hoop earrings worth $120.

• A heartless crook took advantage of a 56-year-old Park Slope woman, telling her she had won a Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes. The woman told police she entered the contest a couple of months ago, then got a phone call on Jan. 31 informing her that she was a winner. The caller told her that to retrieve her winnings, she needed to make two deposits into an account at the Bank of America on Seventh Avenue and Sixth Street. The woman forked over $4,175.

• A Park Slope woman had more than $5,000 in jewelry stolen after plumbers visited her apartment to make a repair on Feb. 8. The woman's landlord let the plumbers and an "unknown friend" into the Fifth Street apartment to fix something in the bathroom. When the 44-year-old resident got home from work, she told cops she found footprints in her bedroom, leading to her jewelry box. The stolen valuables included a $300 child's sapphire ring and four diamond rings.
