CHELSEA — The snow that deluged New York during Winter Storm Nemo became artistic inspiration Sunday for kids and adults who competed in the annual High Line Snow Sculpt-Off.
A handful of teams assembled at noon at the elevated park on Manhattan's west side, which still had mountains of snow left over from Friday night's blizzard.
The grown-up winners — Rosemary Tarcza, 31, a patent examiner, and Marc Alian, a studio manager — originally planned to craft a pirate sculpture, but they wound up making a very different creature instead.
"Somehow it became a demonic rabbit," Tarcza said. "It was a lot of fun. We used carrots for the rabbit's teeth and marshmallows for its eyes."
The winners of the family competition — a team that included Mark Cave, 40; Gary Roth, 47; Milo Roth, 13; and Zane Roth, 9 — built an enormous replica of the Titantic made entirely from snow.
Prizes included goodies from Chelsea Market, Melt Bakery, People's Pops and more.
Tuming Pang, 32, a tourist from Taiwan who stumbled upon the competition while walking along the High Line, was impressed by the icy artwork.
"It's fun to see all the sculptures in ice," Pang said. "It's different and fun."
