STATEN ISLAND — A man suspected of a home invasion robbery was shot by police on Staten Island on Saturday, according to NYPD.

The two anti-crime plain clothes police officers approached the man, 28, at the corner of Charles Avenue and Treadwell Avenue. An NYPD spokesman said they identified themselves as police officers and began questionning the man.

The suspect fled down Treadwell Avenue, then pointed a handgun at the officers, police said. The officers fired two rounds at the suspect, striking him in the upper torso, officials say.

The suspect was transported to Richmond University Medical Center, where he is in stable condition. Charges are pending against him, according to police.

Officials say that a black Smith and Wesson 9 mm handgun, with one live round of ammunition, was recovered.

The two officers were also transported to Richmond University Medican Center in stable condition. Both are being treated for tinnitus and one officer is being treated for an injured knee, according to officials.
