DITMAS PARK — A $30,000 Torah that was stolen along with a rabbi's car in Brooklyn over the weekend was found on Monday, the NYPD said.
The car, which had the Torah inside, was stolen Saturday evening while it was parked outside of Congregation Agudath Sholom of Flatbush, 3714 18th Ave., police said. The thief allegedly lifted the driver's keys and wallet after they were left somewhere in the synagogue, authorities said.
The 2007 Toyota Corolla was found at East 10th Street and Avenue I, just six blocks from where it had been stolen, cops said.
"We're just ecstatic that the car was found and the Torah scrolls were recovered," said Walter Rosenblatt, the synagogue's acting president. "We're really beyond joy."
Rosenblatt added that the rabbi whose car was stolen repairs Torahs and had taken the scroll out to help restore it for another congregation.
Police did not say how the Torah was found.
