NEW YORK CITY — At least he wasn't ordering an extra-large soda.
San Antonio Spurs forward Stephen Jackson reportedly sprained his ankle when he tripped over a waitress serving Mayor Michael Bloomberg at Madison Square Garden during a game against the Knicks Thursday night.
Jackson was backing up from a jump shot late in the first quarter when he fell over the courtside waitress, who was taking Hizzoner’s order, CBS Sports and ESPN reported.
The mayor ordered popcorn and bottle of water, according to ESPN 's Brian Windhorst, who was at the game.
Video footage of the spill appears to shows the waitress crouching in front of two people who closely resemble Bloomberg and his girlfriend, Diana Taylor, who are frequently photographed catching the action from courtside seats. The mayor rarely watches without a giant box of popcorn in hand.
After the spill, the couple appears to continue placing their order to the unfazed waitress, as Jackson limps away in pain.
The incident prompted a wave of jokes on Twitter about whether the mayor had ordered a super-sized soda — a reference to his plan to bar restaurants and stadiums from serving large, sugary sodas, which will take effect later this year.
Bloomberg had told "Late Night" host Jimmy Fallon during a taping earlier Thursday that he was planning to attend the game.
A spokesman for the mayor did not immediately respond to questions about the incident, or whether Bloomberg had, in fact, ordered a super-sized drink.
He was later photographed munching on popcorn with an empty water bottle on the ground between his feet.
Jackson had to sit out the rest of the game and will be out Thursday, according to CBS Sports.
