Port Authority Bus Terminal Wing Evacuated After Gas Leak, Officials Say

MIDTOWN — The Port Authority Bus Terminal was partially evacuated during Wednesday's morning rush hour because of a strong gas odor, officials said.

The south wing of the terminal was cleared out about 8:20 a.m. as firefighters and Con Edison workers investigated the gas leak, representatives for the FDNY and the Port Authority of NY & NJ said.

Buses started dropping off commuters at the curb outside the terminal, but there was little other disruption to rush-hour service, an authority spokesman said.

No one appeared injured as a result of the leak, officials said.

Service was restored about 9 a.m., officials said, and the cause remains under investigation.
