FLUSHING — A brazen thief tried to steal a man's backpack in a subway station during rush hour earlier this month, police said Tuesday.

The suspect grabbed the 25-year-old victim's bag near the turnstiles of Flushing's Main Street subway station, near Roosevelt Avenue, on December 11 about 5:40 p.m., according to the NYPD.

But the victim fought back and the bandit fled with nothing, cops said.

The NYPD is asking for the public's help in tracking down the suspect. He is described as being between 16- to 18-years-old, standing about 5-feet-10-inches tall, and was last seen wearing a black beanie with a dark zip-up sweater, according to police.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-577-TIPS. Tipsters can also submit information at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting 274637, then entering TIP577.
