COBBLE HILL — Several pieces of expensive jewelry were stolen during a burglary last week at Elleven, a popular retail spot on Court Street selling handcrafted jewelry.
The burglary took place around 6 a.m. Dec. 10, just before the morning rush on the busy Cobble Hill street, police said. The boutique's front gate was damaged, and the glass door was shattered in the incident.
No arrests have been made, and police said the amount and value of the property stolen are still unknown.
Cops said this was the first incident of a break-in at Elleven Jewelry.
A staffer at the jewelry store declined to comment on the burglary, though she did confirm that several pieces were taken. She said she could not disclose the amount of jewelry stolen until a full police investigation and further inventory is completed.
Elleven sells handcrafted jewelry, with prices generally ranging between $400 and $500. Most of the pieces use gold and semi-precious stones, and include women’s bracelets, earrings, necklaces and an assortment of wedding bands, staffers said.
Police at the 76th Precinct advise that businesses concerned with security should take advantage of the precinct's free security survey. During the survey, a crime prevention officer will do a walk-through of the business, make suggestions, point out weak spots and leave a written report.
“Businesses need to know that they can invite the police department to come in and conduct free in-store security surveys,” said Craig Hammerman, district manager of Brooklyn's Community Board Six. “Recommendations from the police can be invaluable in preventing crime.”
