MELROSE — Dozens were left with no place to go Sunday after the smoke from a morning fire in The Bronx displaced seven families.
The fire broke out at 10:45 a.m. in a three-story building on Jackson Avenue, officials said, and the fire soon developed to a four-alarm blaze.
No injuries were initially reported, officials said.
Smoke infiltrated neighboring buildings, however, and led to the displacement of seven families, or 33 individuals, two of them children, according to Red Cross officials.
Individuals who were not home but are displaced from 603 Jackson Ave. are asked to contact 877-RED CROSS for assistance.
