FLATLANDS — The NYPD is asking for the public's help in tracking a livery cab passenger who they say stole the vehicle near East 52nd Street early Wednesday.

The suspect was in the livery cab, which was near 1275 E. 52nd St., by Avenue J, when about 4 a.m. he told the driver he had a gun, police said.

That's when he told the driver to get out of the vehicle and demanded some "property," police said.

The victim complied, and the man sped off with the cab, cops said.

The driver didn't appear to be injured and the car was later recovered, police said.

The NYPD released a photo of the suspect, who appears to be about 5-feet-9-inches tall and has a distinctive mustache. He was last seen wearing a brown suede jacket with a grey suede cap, cops said.

Anyone with information about the attack should submit a tip at NYPD Crime Stoppers or call 800-577-TIPS.
