NEW YORK CITY — The Marines are coming — and they’re just in time for Christmas.

Several thousand needy children will receive an early Christmas Thursday thanks to the annual "Toys for Tots" program sponsored by the Marine Corps Reserve in Midtown.

The annual giveaway at the Mercedes-Benz showroom on 11th Ave. and 53rd St. in Manhattan. — co-sponsored by the gold-star American Academy of Hospitality Services — was launched to ensure that less fortunate children “experience the joy of Christmas,” according to the benefactors.

The program began collecting new, unwrapped toys in October in preparation for the spectacular giveaways, which are conducted in communities where Marine Corps Reserve Units are located.

The event, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., is open to the public.
