BROOKLYN — A woman was pulled out of the Gowanus Canal Tuesday evening, fire officials said.
The FDNY received a call about a person in the canal, which has been designated as a Superfund site, near Bond and Union streets around 6 p.m. Tuesday, a fire department spokesman said.
Rescue crews eventually pulled her to safety and transported her to Methodist Hospital, the spokesman said.
Her condition wasn’t immediately known. But the Environmental Protection Agency has described the canal as “one of the nation’s most extensively contaminated water bodies.”
