BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — A man was found dead sprawled on the sidewalk of Madison Street in Brooklyn, and police were investigating what happened early Sunday.
The victim, whose age and identity had not been released pending family notification, was found to be unresponsive by police at 4:30 a.m., who were answering a 911 call reporting the victim.
The man had apparent trauma to his torso, and police and the medical examiner's office were investigating the death Sunday.
He was found in front of 754 Madison Street, a boarded up brownstone, and police were canvassing the nearby homes for information.
An overturned grocery shopping cart was found nearby, as well as a shipping box.
Neighbors on the residential block were surprised about the grisly discovery just outside their front stoops.
"That's the funny thing. I'm a light sleeper and I didn't hear any shots or anything," said Z. Evans, 40, who has lived on the block for 20 years.
"The neighborhood is mostly quiet, but... at times on the weekends in the summertime it does get a little chaotic."
Construction worker Mark Gee, 40, who recently moved back to Bed-Stuy after living in Queens for several years, said the side of the block where the body was found has no lighting.
"They should put some more lights around here, that's for sure," he said. "All along here. That whole side is dark... Basically from the middle of the block to the corner you have no lights and all these trees out there."
"I just came back. I'm ready to move back out," he added.
