Service Restorations on PATH Trains Expected Monday

By DNAinfo Staff on November 11, 2012 5:43pm

NEW YORK CITY — Officials plan on restoring PATH trains between Manhattan, Newark Penn, and Harrison stations on Monday, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Sunday in a statement.

Starting at 5 a.m., on November 12, trains will depart in both directions and run until 10 p.m.

Stops on the line also include Journal Square, Grove Street, and Newport stations in New Jersey.

In Manhattan, the line will stop at 14th, 23rd, and 33rd Streets, but the PATH will bypass Christopher and 9th Streets.

Service is still offline at the Hoboken, Exchange Place, and World Trade Center stations, and accessable platforms are only present at Newark, Journal Square, and 33rd Street stations, the announcement stated.

Despite the restorations, commuters can expect extended waits between trains as well as delays, officials warned.

For Hoboken-Manhattan commuters, the Port Authority and New Jersey Transit will start running a  ferry — with a fare of $5 — from the Hoboken Ferry Terminal on Monday.

NJ Transit customers can travel by bus to the Hoboken Ferry Terminal, then transfer to the boat.

The route terminates at Pier 79, on West 39th Street in Manhattan.

Ferries will run back and forth from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. during the week.

A free shuttle bus service will also be available for customers traveling from Pier 79 to midtown.

Hoboken station passengers can also depart from the Newport station. Ferry service to Lower Manhattan departs from Liberty State Park.

Commuter boats also leave from Weehawken, N.J.

Busses will continue to be an option, as NJ Transit increased by 200 percent the amount of No. 106 buses to and from Hoboken to the Port Authority Bus Terminal, the announcement stated.
