NEW YORK CITY — The city got to work cleaning up after a nor'easter on Thursday, which brought heavy winds, rain and snow into New York just one week after the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.
As New Yorkers took cover from the snow, the Department of Sanitation canvassed the city late Wednesday through Thursday morning with 365 salt-spreaders with plows. Workers will continue to salt through Thursday as needed, a department spokeswoman said.
In Williamsburg on Wednesday night, people slid through the streets as the snow poured down, coating the sidewalks.
By Thursday morning, much of the snow had turned to slush. But on Staten Island, the National Guard was digging out a FEMA recovery center at Miller Field in New Dorp, which was covered in snow.
