NEW YORK — The NYPD has released surveillance video of a man who allegedly groped a 10-year-old girl after following her into downtown apartment building last week.

The footage shows the suspect, a heavyset man clad in blue jeans, white sneakers, a black jacket, and a New York Yankees baseball cap, walking along the sidewalk on Oct. 25. Once inside the apartment building, the video shows him glancing into the lobby and suddenly breaking into a run down a hallway, out of sight of the camera.

The man was described as standing between 5-feet-8-inches and 6 feet tall.

The incident took place about 4 p.m. within the confines of the NYPD's 5th Precinct, which covers Chinatown, Two Bridges, Little Italy and NoLita.
