LONG ISLAND CITY — Maybe third time's a charm.
A controversial strip club in Long Island City, which has been operating alcohol-free because its liquor license application has been denied twice, is trying again to get a permit to serve booze.
Patrick O’Brien, Community Board 2 vice-chair, said he was told by the State Liquor Authority representatives that the club — Show Palace — at 42-50 21st St., has resubmitted its liquor license application.
“It’s the same application,” said O’Brien. “They want the SLA to reconsider it.”
He added that the hearing is scheduled for Oct. 24.
“I have reasonable hopes that they are not going to get away with the third try after two tries, but we’ll see,” said O’Brien.
He said the community board opposes granting a liquor license to the club because it is located just off the Queensboro Bridge, and because it allows patrons who are 18 years old.
The club's application was rejected twice earlier this year after the Long Island City community and elected officials expressed strong opposition to it.
“Nobody wants it,” O'Brien said.
Calls to Terry Flynn, the lawyer who represents Show Palace, were not returned.
A man who picked up the phone at the club on Friday afternoon did not give his name, and said the club has “no comment right now" but confirmed the club's efforts to get the license.
