BROOKLYN — Shortly after residents of a Bushwick building were evacuated over safety concerns, the city announced plans Friday afternoon to demolish the unstable structure.

Authorities vacated residents of 438 Wilson Ave., near Myrtle Avenue, around 8:45 a.m. after the stability of the three-story building came into question, a Fire Department spokesman said.

There were no reported injuries, officials said.

Department of Buildings inspectors said the mixed-use building — which houses stores on the first floor and apartments on the second and third stories — was leaning and "compromising its structural stability," a DOB spokeswoman said.

The DOB ordered the building's demolition Friday afternoon.

Neighboring buildings located at 1316, 1318 and 1322 Putnam Ave. have also been evacuated as a safety precaution until the demolition is completed, the DOB said.
