THE BRONX — An apartment fire in a University Heights building left 14 people, including three firefighters, injured Wednesday night, the FDNY said.
The blaze broke out in a second-floor apartment at 2727 University Avenue at 11:17 p.m., an FDNY spokesman said. More than 100 firefighters from 25 units were involved in battling it, he said.
Some of the residents fled the building and several others were evacuated by firefighters, officials said.
Eleven people inside of the building were hurt, the spokesman said. Three of the injures were considered serious.
The three firefighters suffered minor injuries, the FDNY said.
All of the victims were taken to North Central Bronx Hospital, officials said.
The blaze, which was mostly contained to the second-floor apartment where it began, was brought under control about 30 minutes after it sparked, the spokesman said.
The cause was not immediately known and was under investigation.
