QUEENS — The NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau is investigating the reported stabbing of an off-duty cop during an apparent botched burglary at his Jamaica home because elements of his story have come into question, police sources said.
Officer Rishi Gobin told investigators that he chased a would-be burglar down Liberty Avenue, near 170th St., before the assailant stabbed him in the abdomen, sources said. But cops cannot find any surveillance footage to confirm that, according to the sources.
It also appeared the stabbing occurred inside Gobin's Jamaica home at 103-12 170th St., the sources said.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly told reporters Wednesday afternoon that the weapon seemed to miss Gobin's vital organs. Gobin had also said one of the burglars struck him with an unknown blunt object.
Gobin, who works out of the 42nd Precinct and has five years on the job, was taken to Jamaica Hospital in serious but stable condition.
He was unable to speak to investigators because he was under sedation.
