LONG ISLAND — An off-duty NYPD cop was arrested after a heated fight with his wife in his Long Island home, Nassau County cops said Thursday.

Edwin Martinez, 29, who works for the 109th Precinct in Flushing, was taken into custody Wednesday just before 9:30 p.m. after smashing his wife's cell phone, Nassau cops said.

He was charged with criminal mischief, officials said.

Martinez's wife, Sabrina Cacciato, 27, was charged with criminal mischief, too, police said. She was hit with an additional count for breaking a window in Martinez's home.

Martinez was recognized in January as a "Cop of the Month" by the 109th Precinct Community Council, the Queens Times Ledger reported at the time. Martinez won the award for helping thwart a band of burglars.
