MANHATTAN — Police gave the public a better look Friday morning at the suspect in a vicious sexual assault committed last week near Washington Square Park, releasing a new sketch of the man.

Police say the man entered the Body Work massage parlor at 85 Washington Place around 10 a.m. Friday, beat a 41-year-old woman unconscious and sexually assaulted her. He then robbed the business and fled on foot, police said.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn joined community leaders outside the West 4th Street subway station early Thursday to warn them that the assailant was on the loose and hand out fliers printed with an image of the suspect taken from massage parlor surveillance video.

This is the second reported rape in the 6th Precinct in the last two weeks.

A 28-year-old woman reported that a stranger followed her into her West Village apartment early the morning of Aug. 15, reportedly on Cornelia Street, and sexually assaulted her, cops said.

The suspect in the Body Work attack is described as age 20 to 25, standing about 6-feet tall and having a medium build. He was wearing a dark Kangol-type cap, dark T-shirt, camouflage shorts and a backpack, police said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS. Tips can also be submitted by logging onto www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or texting tips to 274637, the entering TIP577.
