CHELSEA — It's a winter wonderland — in the dead of August
Luxury car company Jaguar is giving New Yorkers a chance to beat the heat by inviting them to strap on ice skates and glide on a rink constructed inside a giant snow globe underneath the High Line.
The "Chill at the High Line" event will debut the icy structure Thursday below the elevated park at West 17th Street. Visitors will be able to check out stylish autos while also participating in a summertime skate.
On Wednesday, staffers were painstakingly erecting the giant dome, which will stay cool using massive machines that will pump frigid air into what is supposed to look like oversized snow globe. Starting Thursday, the public can skate for free — with rentals included — as the next few days are expected to bring highs in the 80s, according to the latest forecast.
The snowy setup will also feature ice-cold treats, demonstrations from professional skaters and some of Jaguar's newest models.
The events kicks off Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. and continues on Friday from noon to 8 p.m., and on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.
