RICHMOND HILL — Police have identified the woman whose badly decomposed remains were found in a Richmond Hill attic earlier this month.
Samantha Bermudez, 19, who lived on West 161st Street in Washington Heights, is the woman whose body was found Aug. 4 in an apartment that belonged to the brother of an NYPD officer, who committed suicide there, police said.
Police believe Devendra Autar, 32, killed Bermudez before hanging himself in his 97-26 Van Wyck Expressway home. His brother, police officer Devchand Autar, found him dead there on July 20, the NYPD said.
Two weeks later, Bermudez's body was discovered in a plastic box with stab wounds to her torso and neck, after neighbors said they smelled a suspicious odor, police said.
Devendra Autar reportedly left behind a suicide note saying he expected to go to Hell.
The NYPD released information about Bermudez's remains last week, in the hopes of learning her identity.
She had six tattoos including "Danny" on top of her left wrist, "Evelyn" on the inside of her left wrist and the Cancer astrological sign on her left forearm, police said.
