LOWER MANHATTAN — More than 100 firefighters raced to One World Trade Center Wednesday morning after welding equipment shot flames from the side of the building, fire officials said.
Teams from 26 FDNY units responded to the 88th floor of the skyscraper about 7:45 a.m. when an anonymous caller reported seeing a fire, the FDNY and The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said.
"There were visible flames on the western side," said FDNY Chief Kevin Brenna at the scene.
The flames were sparking from welding equipment, Brenna said.
"Sometimes it shoots out these large flames," Brenna added.
Firefighters left the scene about an hour after the initital call.
No one was injured, fire officials said.
The incident occurred one day after new renderings of the skyscraper were released.
