SUNSET PARK — Police have arrested the fatal hit-and-run driver who hit a 31-year-old man and left him to die in Sunset Park, the NYPD reported.
Javier Hernandez, 28, was taken into custody about three blocks from the collision about 7 p.m. Monday night, police said. Hernandez was allegedly driving a black 1995 BMW sedan north on Third Avenue when he struck the 31-year-old man, who was crossing 51st Street at Third Avenue, police said. Hernandez allegedly fled the location and was apprehended a short time later.
Hernandez has previous arrests for an alleged burglary in May and an alleged drug possession in July, cops said.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, was taken to Lutheran Medical Center, where he died.
