NEW YORK CITY — A massive weather front was expected to bring torrential rain and the possibility of severe storms to the city Sunday.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch effective from 1 p.m. Sunday to Monday morning in anticipation of the system, which forecasters said could bring up to two inches of rain per hour in some spots.

Forecasters also said that isolated strong to severe thunderstorms were possible Sunday afternoon.

And swimmers should beware because of a high risk of rip currents at city beaches, according to the weather service.
