MIDTOWN EAST — A bare-chested attacker walked into a Midtown deli, grabbed a knife from behind the counter, and walked outside and stabbed a man in the leg, police say.

The bizarre incident took place outside of a deli at Second Avenue and East 55th Street at about 3:43 a.m. Saturday, according to an NYPD spokesman.

The suspect, wearing blue jeans, black shoes, and no shirt, was caught on video camera pacing around the front of the store. He was then spotted walking directly into the deli, and rummaging.

He emerged with what appeared to be a massive knife in his right hand and slashed the victim in the leg, police said.

Police did not know whether or not the attacker worked in the store and the relationship between the suspect and the victim was not clear.

Emergency responders arrived on scene and took the victim to the hospital. He is in stable condition, the spokesman said.
