MANHATTAN — Three people were rescued from the waters off Liberty Island after their sailboat  overturned Tuesday morning, officials said.

The boat flipped over near the island at 11:50 a.m., the NYPD said.

"He was coming over to the statue," said Zhana Cox, 18, an audio tour guide at Liberty Island, referring to one of the people onboard. "It was flipped over, but he was out of the boat. He was okay."

The boaters, who were not identified, were pulled to safety by the emergency crews with the National Park Service, officials said.

Their conditions were not immediately clear.
