NEW YORK — The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the city Monday afternoon.
The warning, in effect until 11 p.m., covers the five boroughs, as well as parts of Long Island, New Jersey, upstate New York and Connecticut.
The weather service said in a statement that scattered storms could produce damaging winds, hail, lightning, heavy rain and possible flooding.
A series of severe thunderstorms battered the city last Wednesday, bringing 1 to 2 inches of rain in an hour, hail and lightning, which struck four people.
The storm ended the city's fourth heat wave of the summer, during which temperatures reached 100 degrees.
It's supposed to get back up to 90 degrees on Tuesday with another chance of thunderstorms, according to AccuWeather.
Then things will cool down a bit on Wednesday with less humidity and a high of 84.
