Jazz Thursdays Summer Concert Series Returns to Queens

By Nigel Chiwaya | July 23, 2012 3:46pm

FOREST HILLS — Forget about Central Park and don't worry about heading to Celebrate Brookyn; live music lovers can head to Forest Hills to catch a show.

Jazz Thursdays, the annual summer concert series sponsored by the Forest Hills Chamber of Commerce, will return for its 8th year next month on Queens Boulevard, with shows on August 9 and 16.

"It's a very fun, community-minded event," said Leslie Brown, president of the Forest Hills Chamber. "You get to meet your friends and neighbors, and people can sit outside and eat and have drinks."

This year's shows, which take place on 70th Road between Queens Boulevard and Austin Street, will benefit Nate Fitzgerald, a longtime jazz saxophonist and music director who is battling ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

Artists performing this year are L.A. Blacksmith and Jazz Plus and the Etienne Lytle Sextet. Vocalist Stacia Hobdy will perform at both shows.

The Jazz Thursdays are free and open to all ages.

Audience members will receive gift bags courtesy of the Forest Hills Chamber. For more information visit jazzthursdays.com.
