FINANCIAL DISTRICT — That late-night taxi ride home is going to get more expensive after the Taxi & Limousine Commission approved a series of fare hikes.

While the $2.50 base fare will remain the same, the fare will jump from .40 to .50 for every 1/5 of a mile when traffic is moving, and by that same rate for every minute when the cab is stuck in traffic.

The cost of a ride from JFK Airport to Manhattan also jumped from $45 to $52.

A ride from Manhattan to Newark Liberty Airport rose from $15 to $17.50.

Riders can expect to pay 17 percent more per ride overall, officials said. For example, a three mile ride will go from $12 to $14, the Daily News reported.

The changes go into effect in September.

Several dozen protestors stood in the back of the room with signs urging the commission to raise the fare.
