Zoe Kazan Shines at 'Ruby Sparks' Premiere

LOWER EAST SIDE — She couldn’t have written it better.

Actress Zoe Kazan celebrated her first turn as screenwriter with the premiere of “Ruby Sparks” at the Landmark Sunshine Theater on East Houston Street Wednesday night.

The film’s star, and Kazan’s real-life boyfriend, Paul Dano, took to the red carpet with the film’s directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, along with many of the movie's other players.

In the Ben Affleck-Matt Damon tradition of writing the roles you want because you can’t find them, Kazan penned this film about a novelist with writer’s block (Dano) who creates the female character he thinks will love him (Kazan, in the title role) and then wills her into being.

A collection of hipster actors, all with television cred, turned out to support the film’s debut, including Savannah Wise of "Smash," Arden Myrin of "Chelsea Lately," Alex Karpovsky of "Girls," Aleksa Palladino of "Boardwalk Empire," and "Royal Pains" stars Mark Feuerstein and Pepper Binkley, who has also appeared on “The Good Wife.”
