BROOKLYN — The teen who was shot in the face while a walking home from a friend's party in Bushwick last month died Tuesday on his 15th birthday, according to police and reports.

Akeal Christopher had been on life support at Brookdale University Hospital since he was shot June 27.

“We are all devastated,” the teen’s mother, Natasha Christopher, told the Daily News. “All this violence is hard to fathom. It needs to stop. How many children need to die before we wake up and stop this insanity?”

Akeal Christopher, a 10th grader at Transit Tech High School in East New York, had been walking with friends after a graduation party on June 27 when they encountered another group at the corner of Evergreen Avenue and Cornelia Street just before 11 p.m., police said.

A member of that group asked Christopher and his friends, “Are you part of the Loot Crew?” Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said last month.

As Christopher and his friends tried to run away, someone pulled out a gun and fired multiple times, striking Christopher in the face, Kelly said.

No arrests have been made in the case.
