MANHATTAN — After record temperatures last week, the city finally cooled off with a heavy thunderstorm Monday.

And with temperatures expected to stay below 85 over the next two days, New Yorkers can expect a little relief from the grueling summer temperatures that arrived early this year, according to AccuWeather.

Last week's heat wave caused power outages throughout Brooklyn and Queens neighborhoods on Friday, as roughly 1,700 customers were left without power through mid-morning.

With temperatures nearly reaching triple digits, the city opened 450 cooling centers to help New Yorkers beat the heat.

After Monday's storm, the city was expected to see another day of rain with an afternoon thunderstorm Tuesday, according to AccuWeather. The high is expected to be near 76.

The heat will rise to the low eighties on Wednesday, and approach 90 on Thursday and Friday.
