UPPER EAST SIDE — A Salvador Dali painting worth $150,000 was stolen from an art gallery on Madison Avenue this week, police said.

The 1949 Dali painting, "Cartel des Don Juan Tenorio," was apparently stolen from the Venus Over Manhattan gallery, 980 Madison Ave., on Tuesday, police said. The incident was first reported by NBC 4 New York.

Gallery Director Artemis Baltoyanni told DNAinfo.com New York the gallery is cooperating with police in the investigation and declined to comment further on the incident.

Surveillance footage shows a man wearing a dark shirt with white polka dots enter the gallery with a black cloth bag and leave with the painting, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit tips by logging onto Crime Stoppers' website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting their tips to CRIMES (274637), then entering TIP577.
