WILLIAMSBURG — A woman was struck and killed by a train at the Metropolitan Avenue station Tuesday morning, officials said.

The victim was hit by a southbound G train as it entered the station about 11:30 a.m., according to the FDNY and the MTA.

The woman, who was already on the tracks, was pronounced dead at the scene, sources said.

Officials initially believed the victim was a man.

The woman who was killed was not identified, officials said.

The incident forced MTA officials to shut down G train service in both directions, according to an 11:45 a.m. update on the authority's website. Service was restored at 12:15 p.m.

NYPD officials said no criminality is suspected.
