WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — Police are investigating a shooting at the southern end of the 33rd Precinct Monday morning that left one man critically injured.

Few details were immediately available, but police sources said a young Hispanic male was shot at approximately 5:30 a.m. near the corner of St. Nicholas Avenue and West 159th Street.

The man was treated for critical injuries at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital immediately after the shooting but was in stable condition late Monday afternoon, police said.

The shooting took place in a highly residential area of the precinct, near the historical Morris-Jumel Mansion, Manhattan's oldest house and George Washington's headquarters during the Revolutionary War.

Police said an investigation into the incident is underway.
