FOREST HILLS — There will be plenty to do on Austin Street this Sunday as the Forest Hills Street Festival celebrates a dozen years in the neighborhood — featuring demonstrations from dance and karate studios plus a show from a local alternative rock band.

The festival, which runs on Austin Street from 69th to 72nd roads, kicks off at 11:30 a.m. and will showcase food, art and merchandise from over 150 vendors.

Music and entertainment will be in large supply as well. There will children's rides and entertainment on 70th Road, between Austin Street and Queens Boulevard, featuring demonstrations from local dance and karate studios. The alternative rock band Meteorana is set to play at 12:45 p.m.

According to Leslie Brown, president of the Forest Hills Chamber of Commerce, the acts are what set the festival apart from other street fairs.

"This is serious entertainment," Brown said. "We're not talking about junky entertainment."

The Forest Hills street festival will run until 6 p.m. For more information call the Forest Hills Chamber of Commerce at 718-268-6565 or visit http://www.foresthillschamber.org/
