STATEN ISLAND — Divers pulled a teen from the waters off of New Brighton on Tuesday evening and rushed him to Richmond University Medical Center, according to reports and FDNY officials.

The victim was in cardiac arrest after the incident that occurred shortly after 5 p.m., fire officials said.

The 15-year-old was apparently playing in the water off of Jersey Street and Richmond Terrace when he either slipped or was pulled out deeper into the current, a friend told the Staten Island Advance.

The search lasted for nearly an hour with harbor units and helicopters, and streets were closed as the victim was rushed to the hospital, creating at least an hourlong back-up in the Staten Island Ferry Terminal's parking lots, according to the Advance.
