FOREST HILLS — A man was struck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road train in Forest Hills Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

The victim was on the tracks near the station at 71st Avenue and Austin Street when a westbound train hit him at approximately 4:20 p.m., MTA and FDNY officials said.

The man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, an FDNY spokesman said.

The Ronkonkoma train was scheduled to arrive at Penn Station just after 4:30 p.m., said Sam Zambuto, an MTA spokesman.

Westbound service has been temporarily suspended from Jamaica to Penn Station, he said.

New York City Transit was honoring Long Island Rail Road tickets for entry at the Jamaica, Kew Gardens, Forest Hills, Woodside and Penn Station stops, Zambuto said.

The MTA police is investigating the incident, he said.
